Artist Portfolio: Dennis Estrada Ruiz
Artist Statement
I am a self taught painter. I enjoy portraiture as it tends to embody a soul of culture and life within. I enjoy studying art history and the methods of the old masters. Although I have no formal education in painting, I explore many resources in the pursuit of knowledge.
Some of the artists that I have looked up to for inspiration include William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Bob Ross, Bill Alexander, David Gray, Diego Velasquez, Salvador Dahli, and Louise Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun.
I am still refining my techniques, and although I believe that anyone who truly wants to paint can; no one is ever done learning. I currently work mostly from photos, but enjoy the live model much more.
I have participated in some local shows in San Antonio, mostly pertaining to the Art Slam hosted at the White Rabbit and some displayed work at La Vida Gallery.
I have recently started venturing to do more Plein Air painting and lookig for inspiration in the world around as it changes.
